Portugal — D8 digital nomad residence visa
Portugal's remote-worker route: a residence visa issued by the consulate, followed by an AIMA residence permit once you arrive.
Requirements
- Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationality
- Work performed remotely for an employer or clients based outside Portugal
- Income test met for the three months before lodgement
- Portuguese tax number (NIF) and a Portuguese bank account
- Accommodation in Portugal for at least 12 months
- Clean criminal record and consent to a Portuguese criminal record check
- Health insurance valid in Portugal
- Income test
- Average monthly remote income of at least four times the Portuguese national minimum wage over the preceding three months, plus savings on deposit.
- Permit length
- Residence visa valid 4 months for entry, converted to a 2-year residence permit, renewable for 3 further years.

- Consular visa fee and AIMA residence permit fee, paid by you at cost to the Portuguese authorities. Not collected by us.

- Police clearance certificate from every country lived in over the last 5 years
- Proof of remote work: employment contract, client contracts or company registration
- Income evidence: 6 months of payslips, invoices or company distributions
- Personal bank statements for the last 6 months
- Proof of accommodation in the destination country
- Private health insurance covering the destination country
- Curriculum vitae
- Marriage certificate and birth certificates, where family members are included
- Portuguese NIF certificate
- Portuguese bank account confirmation
- 12-month Portuguese lease, property deed or notarised accommodation declaration
